Welcome to Three Chilis Custom Woodcraft

We are a Madison, Wisconsin based designer and maker of furniture, cabinetry and wood products. We work with customers to design and fabricate their dream piece of custom furniture or cabinetry, as well as offer already produced furniture or other wood products.

Our Furniture Design Aesthetic

Our aesthetic can be summed up in three words: modern, natural, and beautiful. We strive to design pieces where the beauty of wood is featured, yet stay true to its natural form as much as possible. That means organic looking furniture with less straight lines, right angles, and in your face joinery, but rather furniture with a one of a kind form and shape, just like the natural environment.

Form and Function

The products we produce are not only made to be beautiful, but functional. In the end, furniture and cabinets serve a function, and custom built products can be built to your unique specifications. From invisible wireless charging to built in electronics, to multilayered drawers and pullouts shaped around under-sink pipes, we go the extra mile to custom build the products to meet your biggest and most creative ideas.

Origins

Three Chilis Custom Woodcraft was born out of the COVID pandemic. Like a lot individuals during the pandemic, my wife was thrust into working from home without a good place to do it. My first project was her desk, which got me instantly hooked. After returning to a more “normal” day to day life, I couldn’t stop thinking about and obsessively making furniture. After making almost countless pieces of furniture and cabinetry for my own home, honing the craft with many hours in the shop, I decided to turn this time consuming and expensive hobby into a business, and share my love of the material and craft with more people than just my family.

Furniture

Clients typically reach out with a functional need, and a desire for hardwood furniture that features the beauty of wood in their space. Three Chilis desired aesthetic is to design and create furniture that feels refined and modern yet informal, natural rather than contrived, and which enhances a space rather than stand out and contrast.

For most projects, the wood is purchased from either urban forestry or local mills and land owners. That means that for the most part, furniture is produced utilizing southern Wisconsin wood stock. There is careful attention to wood grain selection, orientation, and a occasional use of wood defects (knots) when they enhance the piece.

Some types of pieces that Three Chilis creates might include: desks, dining tables large and small, sofa tables, end tables, benches, plant displays, outdoor and indoor tables and chairs, indoor and outdoor occasional chairs, outdoor sofas, coffee tables, nightstands, beds, bookcases, dressers and more.

Cabinetry

Three Chilis designs and builds custom cabinetry with great attention to details. This could include stand alone or built in cabinetry with a seamless fit it into your space. We use of high quality materials that last, drawers and cabinet doors to your specification, and finishes that make the space feel like home.

Cabinetry can be made from hardwood, hardwood plywood, or from high end cabinetry grade ply wood that is either finished “bare” or painted. Three Chilis loves integrating distinctive styles as part of custom cabinetry, such as glass or metal panel doors, mixed wood or paint color tones, unique hardware, and sometimes no hardware at all for a more minimalist look.

All components utilize high quality drawer slides and hinges that can sustain years of opening and closing. Innovative drawers and pullouts are also considered, which help create cabinetry that maximizes the use of space and enhances organization.

Cabinet Storage Solutions

Three chilis also designs and produces custom cabinet accessories which allow clients to get the most from their cabinet space. This includes basic cabinet pullouts, as well as innovative pullouts with a specific storage solution in mind, such as pot racks, spice racks, laundry room pullouts for cleaning products or drying racks, under sink pull outs that accommodate drainage pipes, as well as drawer organization such as sliding tiered trays or charging stations.
